A habitation check is carried out by a specialist engineer, it is similar to an MOT for the vehicle’s habitation area, covering potential issues in gas, electrical, water, and ventilation systems, as well as checking for damp and fire risks.

Where are the habitation checks carried out?
Our mobile service enables habitation checks for motorhomes and campervans to be carried out at a time and place most convenient to you whether that is your home address, workplace or storage facility.
Each habitation check lasts approximately two – three hours and will cover things like water ingress, electrical and gas safety, window and door security and the other essential aspects which keep your vehicle running safely.
Can the habitation be carried out at my home address, and do I need to be in?
Of course, that’s the beauty of our mobile habitation van. You do not need to be present during the inspection however we require keys and you to sign the paperwork once it is completed
Why should I use an engineer registered with the Approved Workshop Scheme?
SJB Customs Campervan and Motorhome engineers are trained and qualified to Approved Workshop Scheme standards for your peace of mind.
This means that your habitation check will be carried out by a specialist engineer following a specific, detailed system to ensure nothing is missed and every possible detail is covered.
Our mobile workshop is annually audited to ensure we comply with the AWS standards.

When should I get a habitation check carried out on my campervan or motorhome?
We recommend you check your Motorhome or Campervans warranty terms and conditions. Each manufacturer has its own rules regarding habitation checks which maintain the validity of your warranty.
For those of you whose manufacturers warranty has expired then we recommend getting your habitation check done once a year.
Rental companies tend to carry out their habitation checks in the winter during their quiet season. Carrying out your habitation check pre or post winter is a sensible option as we can advise on how to keep your camper van or motorhome safe from frost damage.
Do you carry out habitations on caravans?
Currently we are only carrying out habitations on camper vans or motorhomes we are unable to carry out habitation cheques on caravans.
